Newspaper Nails for New Year's

There ain't nothin' like a DIY project that looks complicated, but is in fact easy as pie. Such is the case with newspaper nails.  These babies give off the effect of being a labor-intensive project, but don't involve any of the painstaking handiwork that other DIY nail designs might.  And of course, the actual lettering of the newspapers makes for an awesome effect.

For lots of compliments on New Year's Eve, give these no-fuss nails a try!

You will need:

  • Newspaper (no more than a single page from the paper will do)
  • 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol (or enough to dip all ten fingers in)
  • Light or pastel-colored nail polish ( I chose white as the newspaper's ink stands out more)
  • A good quality top coat

To start, paint your nails with the lightly colored nail polish you've chosen.

Once they are dry (and I mean completely dry), start by sticking a single nail into the rubbing alcohol.

When the nail is good and covered with alcohol, take a typed section of your newspaper and place it onto the wet nail. Keep it there and press firmly for about 20 seconds. Make sure to keep the newspaper in place and that it doesn't slip or move around.

After about 20 seconds, take the newspaper off.  To be extra careful, I like to sort of peel off the paper so I don't smudge anything.

Viola! After peeling off the paper, your nail should be covered in words!

Repeat with all your other nails.

When you are all done, put a layer of top coat on  your nails for some extra protection and shine.

Feel free to experiment with different times of prints, fonts and sizes. You can use letters from headlines to do a single letter on each nail or even transfer different fonts onto each nail. Oh yeah, and don't forget to recycle the newspaper when you're done!
